Did you read that title without singing the Sound of Music? I can’t do it. When the dog bites! When the bee stings! When I’m feeling sad! I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad! Ok, just be glad you can’t actually hear me sing that.
Anywho. I love reading posts like this and thought it would be fun to include some of my own favorite things. I feel like my interests these days have been all over the place so this list is a little bit random. Here are some of my recent favorite things.
The warmer the weather gets here in Florida, the more my hair rebels against curling and straightening irons. So, last week I got a hair cut and lobbed off about three inches of my hair. With this fresh start, I’ve vowed to embrace my natural curls. I started using the DevaCurl No-Poo Conditioning Cleanser and One Condition Daily Conditioner (along with a cocktail of other products necessary to tame this mane) and I may never fire up a hair iron again. I’m going to write a whole post on my new hair care routine and product regime, but I’ve been super impressed with the DevaCurl line so far.
2. Specialized Jynx 650b Mountain Bike
Adam and I recently bought a pair of Specialized mountain bikes and we’ve really been enjoying exploring the local bike trails. The model I have is Jynx 650b in gloss white/cyan/indigo. Mountain biking is more difficult than I thought it would be (Duh, ok. I’m also SUPER out of shape.) but I’ve enjoyed challenging and pushing myself to finish our rides. I have threatened multiple times to quit but I have yet to do it! And Adam may or may not bribe me each trip with a stop at Sonic for a Powerade slush on the way home.
3. Baleaf Cycling Underwear
And the award for the most awkward item on this list is… With the purchase of a mountain bike also came the purchase of some padded underpants. These things look like a diaper but they have saved my tush some serious pain. I just wear them over my normal underpants and under my shorts. Function wins over fashion this round.
4. Sunhiker Cycling Backpack
Ok, this is the last cycling related item I’ll mention. This little backpack is the perfect size for carrying some very select essentials while riding. A chapstick, hair tie, ID, small towel, water, and my phone. And because the backpack is so light, you hardly even notice you’re wearing it.
5. GoPro Hero Session
As a birthday gift to ourselves, Adam and I purchased a GoPro HERO Session. I’ve been wanting to start taking more video of our lives. (As my friend Ansley says, “People don’t come over to watch scrapbooks!”) We used it on our birthday cruise to take photos and video. And I’ve made two videos from our adventures around town, which you can watch here and here. So far it’s been a fun little gadget!
6. The Robinson Family Glamper
Becka Robinson is a retired wedding photographer turned Beachbody Coach who lives right down the state in Orlando. She recently renovated a 2005 fifth-wheel RV with her husband and shared the transformation on her blog. The results are beautiful! Major life goals. Her family recently set out on a cross-country trip and I’ve really enjoyed following their travels on social media.
Snapchat has come a long way from the naughty app it became famous for. I’ve really enjoyed following friends on Snapchat and creating my own stories. It’s a fun way to add glimpses into your life without clogging your Instagram or Facebook feeds. The filters are really fun too. I’m erinwiggle if you want to be Snap friends.
8. Worship Music
I’m one of those
weird people who is perfectly fine to sit in silence, especially if I’m trying to read or write. Listening to other words while I’m trying to create my own is distracting. If my husband isn’t home, I can literally go all day without any noise. But one genre of music that I’ve found to be both inspirational and non-distracting is worship music. (There’s a parable in that last sentence somewhere.) The Praise & Worship Songs playlist on Spotify has been my go-to daily soundtrack. But four songs in particular have really stood out to me from that playlist – Great Are You Lord by All Sons & Daughters, How Can It Be by Lauren Daigle, It Is Well by Kristene Dimarco, and Thy Will by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family (yep, that’s Hillary from Lady Antebellum).
9. She Percolates Podcast
I’ve talked about the She Percolates podcast before, but I just really love listening to Jen and Danielle’s show. Every Wednesday, She Percolates interviews an inspiring woman on her definition and road to success. On Fridays, Jen and Danielle have a “coffee date” where they chat about specific topics ranging from pop culture to every day adversities. I quit listening for a while so lately I’ve been binging to catch up. My favorite episode so far is the interview with Katie del Castillo Vail of Life With A Dash Of Whimsy. Katie is such an inspiring woman for so many different reasons and I highly recommend that episode.
10. Wild & Free by Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan
On a recommendation, I pre-ordered this book and have enjoyed reading it so far. As someone who constantly feels like I’m never enough, this book is speaking to my heart by encouraging me to utilize my gifts and live my life according to God’s calling despite restraints I might feel from those around me. I don’t always have to be composed and put together. I can live my life wild and free.
11. New Balance 501
I’ve recently become obsessed with New Balance sneakers. Since I’m on my feet pretty much all day at work, I need a shoe that’s supportive as well as attractive. I have a few different models of New Balance shoes but my favorite is the 501, a perfect mix of function and fashion. I’m also lusting over every color in these 574s (that adorable popsicle lining!) and these 574s in black.
12. Torani Mango Syrup
During the Summer, Starbucks offers mango syrup that I love getting mixed into my black iced tea. But since each iced tea is $3 a pop, I realized I was spending a lot of money on something I could essentially make at home. I got on Amazon (oh, how I love thee!) and bought a case of Torani mango syrup. And now, except for the occasional Starbucks splurge, I make mango iced tea at home for a fraction of the cost. (And I can have mango all year long!)
What are some things you’re loving these days?
