Fact: it’s hot in Florida 90% of the time which makes it a perfect climate for year round enjoyment of smoothies. Once upon a time I woke up every morning and made a smoothie for breakfast. Smoothies are a great way to sneak extra fruit and vegetables into your diet. But somewhere along the line I fell off the smoothie making wagon. Thankfully there are places like Tropical Smoothie Cafe which offer a full menu of refreshing smoothies, all day breakfast options, and lunch favorites. I was recently invited to try the new menu at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. I took my friend Desi with me as an additional taste tester and we were pleasantly surprised with their newest options.
(Clockwise: Acai Berry Boost, Peaches n’ Silk, PB Apple Power Up Smoothies)
Tropical Smoothie Cafe offers a variety of classic smoothie recipes like strawberry limeade and peaches n’ silk (my personal favorite). They also recently updated their menu to include some superfood options like PB Apple Power Up which combines fresh peanut butter, green apples, bananas, cinnamon, and whey protein to create a power packed smoothie with 41g of protein. This smoothie tastes a lot like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in a good way. The cinnamon offers a nice kick at the end. Since this smoothie packs so much protein, it would make a great meal substitute or afternoon snack.
In addition to refreshing smoothies, Tropical Smoothie Cafe features fresh food selections including all day breakfast, flatbreads, sandwiches and wraps, and salads. I tried out the Supergreen Caesar Wrap which features grilled chicken with a blend of romaine, kale, spinach, Parmesan cheese, diced tomatoes (none for me, thanks), Parmesan crisps and Caesar dressing all packed inside a toasted flour tortilla. I really liked the superfoods addition to a traditional caesar wrap. The Parmesan crisps added texture and needed crunch to the wrap. I ate the entire thing.
Desi ordered the Baja Chicken Bowl which features all natural grilled chicken topped with a savory combination of rice, black beans, smashed avocado, romaine, house-made pickled red onions, cheddar and roasted tomato salsa. The portion size of the bowl was much larger than my wrap so if you’re hungry, this is a great option. Desi enjoyed the bowl but said the pickled onions were a bit overpowering so she picked most of them out. Otherwise, the Baja Chicken Bowl was a filling and delicious option.
In addition to the options we tried, the Tropical Smoothie Cafe revamped menu also includes Chicken Bacon Ranch Flatbread, Chicken Apple Club Flatbread, Tropical Chicken Salad Sandwich, and Green Apple Matcha Smoothie available until October 22nd. With multiple locations around Jacksonville, there’s sure to be a Tropical Smoothie Cafe near you. For more information on the menu or to find your closest cafe, visit tropicalsmoothiecafe.com.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe provided me with a gift card to try out the new menu options in exchange for this post. Opinions are my own.
