Well, the title sort of spoils the surprise – we bought a camper! We’ve always entertained the idea of buying a small camper but we were waiting for the right one to come along. After seeing an ad on Craig’s List for an 18′ camper that looked to be in relatively good shape and within our price range, we decided to contact the seller and take a look. We stopped by on Sunday, mulled over it Sunday night, and took the plunge on Monday. The next thing we knew, we were cutting a checking, shaking hands, and towing our camper home. Sometimes being an adult is really, really fun.
We purchased a 2008 Gulf Stream Kingsport camper. This little thing has perfect features and amenities for a couple or small family to travel. The dinette folds down into a full sized bed and the sofa pulls out like a futon. The kitchen features a two-burner gas range, mini fridge with freezer, a double sink, and overhead microwave. The bathroom is small with a corner shower, vanity and medicine cabinet, and typical RV style toilet. But as small as this thing is, there’s an ample amount of storage.
Structurally the camper is very sound. The outside is weatherworn and in need of a good scrub. The inside is aged and could use some updates. But if we wanted to pack up our gear and take off tomorrow, we could.
With that being said, my mind is reeling with DIY and renovating ideas to turn this into our dream camper. Seriously, why is there so much brown?! Pinterest is making me want to paint the whole thing white and start with a blank canvas. But the remodel will be a slow grind since we actually want to use the camper this summer and not spend every weekend doing renovations instead of relaxing at campgrounds. She’ll get the facelift she deserves in good time. (Becka’s RV renovation is giving me major inspiration and heart eyes.)
We’re hoping to get her all cleaned up and take her out for a maiden voyage here in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see where these new adventures take us!
