My friend Samantha doesn’t drink much. I would hardly call her a cocktail connoisseur. She typically orders cheap light beers. (And I try not to judge her too harshly about it.) But ironically, she’s the one that introduced me to one of my new favorite cocktails – the Moscow Mule.
The Moscow Mule is making a comeback thanks to shows like Mad Men, along with some other more traditional drinks like the Old Fashioned and Tom Collins. Wanting to put a Sunshine State spin on a crowd favorite, I combined vodka from a local distillery with oranges off Poppie’s trees.
I kept my cocktail local by using St. Augustine Distillery vodka, a super smooth spirit that’s distilled right here on the First Coast using 100% Florida-farmed sugar cane, and a splash of Grand Marnier.
I added ginger beer and finished the drink off with fresh squeezed orange juice made from oranges picked off the trees in Poppie’s yard. And voila! The Florida Orange Mule was born.
Here’s how you can make your own Florida Orange Mule.
- 1 oz St. Augustine Distillery vodka
- 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
- 3 oz Fevertree Ginger Beer
- 1 oz fresh squeeze orange juice
Pour all ingredients in a glass over ice. Mix and garnish with an orange slice. Cheers!
What’s your favorite cocktail? I love to know if you give my recipe a try!
