Happy Hour: Muddled Mojitos

I was 19 or 20. I can’t quite remember my exact age but I wasn’t quite 21. I had accompanied my (older) boyfriend to a dinner with some of his coworkers at a swanky Brazilian steakhouse by the beach. He ordered a round of mojitos and I got my first taste of this refreshing Spanish cocktail, a far cry from my usual cheap vodka. And ever since then, the mojito has been one of my favorite drinks.

When made correctly, the mojito is a light and refreshing citrus drink, perfect for warm summer days. I’ve had my share of bad mojitos but every once in a while, the bartender knows how to muddle together the perfect equation of mint, lime, sugar, rum, and soda water. Delicious!

I have to admit that I have yet to exact the recipe myself but I love trying new flavors and takes on the traditional mojito. Here’s a couple of mojito recipes that are making me want to buy a muddler.

PS. If alcohol isn’t your thing, leave it out for a delicious and refreshing mocktail!
