A Day In The Life

6:00 am: First alarm goes off. Snooze.

6:15 am: Second alarm goes off. Snooze. Browse Facebook and Instagram from bed.

6:30 am: Third and final alarm goes off. Adam is already up getting ready for work. I finally get up. (Mornings are so hard!) Let the dogs out, turn on the morning news, wash a few dishes, start making coffee, throw a load of laundry in the washer.

7:00 am: Adam has left for the day. I pour a cup of coffee and head into the bathroom to curl my hair.

7:25 am: Hair is done and I sit down on the couch to begin this post on my iPad and watch a few minutes of the Today Show.

7:35 am: Head back into the beauty studio to put together an outfit for today. Get distracted by Instagramming the collage I made for my new planner. (These are a few of my favorite things!) Remember that I have two days worth of #30lists prompts to do, but they’ll have to wait until later.

7:45 am: Turn back to the closet. Picking out outfits is so hard these days. The weather says shorts and flipflops; my mind says layers and boots. (Sigh. #floridaproblems) Decide on a pair of shorts and long sleeve shirt. Pop up the ironing board to take care of the super wrinkled shorts.

8:35 am: The rest of the morning is spent getting ready for work, listening to the news, and trying not to get distracted. By 8:30, I’m letting the dogs out one more time and gathering my things for the day. At 8:35, I’m out the door headed to work.

8:50 am: Arrive to work. Start up my computer, get a list going for the day.

9:00 am: Check and respond to emails. Print out online orders I need to pull. Today there is only one order.

9:50 am: Move on to completing other tasks on my list, including accounting work, updating some items on our website, and helping customers.

11:30 am: I head to lunch earlier than normal (usually I go around 1pm or 2pm) because my counterpart coworker will be gone for the afternoon but I’m not complaining because I’m STARVING. Stop by Michael’s for washi tape to use in my new planner and check out the $1 bins while I’m there. (Surprisingly I only left with washi tape.) Tijuana Flats for lunch. It’s Throwback Thursdaze – a burrito, chips, and drink for $5. Can’t beat that!

12:25 pm: Back to work!

4:45 pm: Adam stops by on his way home from work. We briefly talk about our day and he leaves after a few minutes to head home. I’d say he’s lucky to already be off work… but he also gets to the office much earlier than I do. I’ll take a late start. (I am so not a morning person.)

5:30 pm: My BFF received the surprise package I sent her earlier in the week. She’s had a tough week so it was just what she needed to brighten her day. I just love snail mail! (In case you’re wondering what was in the package – notecards, candy, funny bandages, cupcake liners, and a cute little card.)

7:00-7:20 pm: We close up shop which means bringing in the displays from outside, vacuuming the store, and taking out the trash. I balance out the cash drawer and head home. Long day, but thankfully only two days out of the week are this long.

7:30 pm: The boys are happy to see me, furry and human alike. Adam has already eaten dinner so I fend for myself. I really want pizza so I call in an order to the pizzeria up the road. (Normally I take this as an opportunity to cook and eat as many veggies as possible but tonight I was just really craving pizza.)

8:50 pm: Adam and I get sucked into watching a documentary about a giant shark on Discovery channel… only to find out it was a fake documentary. WHAT THE HECK, DISCOVERY? Sigh. Adam swaps between various documentaries while I catch up on Instagram and text my BFF.

10:00 pm: I forgot that I threw the sheets in the wash so I grab them out of the dryer and quickly make the bed so we can go to sleep. We start our bedtime routine – brush teeth, let the dogs out, turn off the lights and set the alarm.

10:30 pm: Adam falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. I play on my phone (I really need to start reading a book instead) for a few more minutes before finally going to sleep. Good night!

  1. So happy you did one of these! They are pretty fun to compile. I loved reading about your day! I like how low-key your mornings are with your later work start. That must be nice!

    1. Thanks! I’m not a morning person but I’ve learned that if I start slowly instead of rushing to get things done, I’m in a much better mood the rest of the day. Also, planning to write one of these posts makes you more productive because you need things to write about, haha. 🙂

  2. So fun! You were right- you have amazing handwriting (a la the writing on the package).

I should do one of these posts at some point. I don’t know if I’m particularly fascinating but I DO enjoy reading about other people’s days so why not?

  3. Fake science has been a trend at Discovery, especially over the last two years of Shark Week. It’s highly disappointing and sad. I get they’re going for entertainment, but yeah. I’m hoping they don’t go the way of MTV (who rarely play music videos any more) and stop producing good content.

    1. This is frustrating and unnecessary, especially coming from a channel that is supposed to advocate the Earth and what inhabits her. Then again, we can see the way Animal Planet has gone. Now it’s a bunch of reality shows about animal abuse and terrible pets. I miss good documentaries.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Erini! 🙂
