I‘m going to apologize in advance for how awful this outfit photo is, but I think once you hear the story and realize how rushed the whole event was, you’ll forgive me for subpar photography.
I got a phone call Monday afternoon from Adam that I needed attire to attend a nice dinner with a group of military “high ups.” This wouldn’t have really been that big of deal had I been home. (I have a whole closet of appropriate attire!) But I was at his apartment which is 40 miles away from my house. Essentially I had about three hours to procure an outfit for said event and get ready. Let the challenge begin!
I headed to my go-to dress store – Ross. Just to throw another wrench into the plan, Adam’s apartment is about 25 minutes away from the nearest mall. I don’t think I’ve ever scoured clothing racks so fast. I gathered a handful of dresses and narrowed it down before heading to the dressing room. Once I decided on a dress, I stopped by the shoes and found a perfect pair of black patent leather pumps. Next stop: Walmart for undergarments.
In about 50 minutes, I had managed to buy a whole new ensemble and started the 25 minute drive back to the apartment. When I walked through the door, I had about an hour to get ready. So, I scurried to shower, do my hair and makeup, and put on my new outfit.
End scene. And the finished product. (And again I apologize for the horribly grainy iPhotography but you get the idea.)
While I’m proud of putting together an entire outfit in a short amount of time and on the fly, I’m most proud of how much little money I spent.
Let’s break it down.
Dress – Ross, $15
Shoes – Ross, $14 (And they’re even Calvin Klein!)
Undergarments – Walmart, $8
Grand Total – $37
Yep, I spent under $40 on this whole outfit. I would love to have been able to accessorize it a little better but I’d say I did pretty well considering I was on a time and budget crunch.
If I had a super power, it’d be finding affordable fashion. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m off to fight bad guys in pricey department stores.
